Role summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering and maintenance function within a fast-paced home fragrance manufacturing environment. The role ensures maximum equipment reliability, operational efficiency, safety compliance, and continuous improvement across production processes including wax filling, vessel handling, fragrance dosing, packing, and automation systems. This position plays a critical role in supporting productivity, cost control, capital investment delivery, and the long-term technical capability of the site.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Maintenance Leadership
? Lead and develop the site engineering team (multi-skilled engineers, technicians, apprentices). ? Own the preventative and predictive maintenance strategy to maximise OEE and reduce downtime. ? Ensure rapid and effective breakdown response and root cause analysis. ? Drive continuous improvement in asset reliability and maintenance planning
Operational Support
? Partner closely with Production, Planning, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure engineering alignment with operational priorities. ? Support NPD launches, seasonal ramp-ups, and promotional demand peaks typical of the home fragrance sector. ? Improve line efficiency across wax melting, pouring, cooling tunnels, fragrance dosing, labelling, and automated packing systems.
Capital Projects & Investment
? Lead site capital expenditure projects from business case through to commissioning. ? Deliver equipment upgrades, automation projects, layout improvements, and energy efficiency initiatives. ? Manage external contractors and suppliers, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Compliance & Safety
? Ensure full compliance with HSE legislation and company safety standards. ? Maintain statutory inspections (pressure systems, lifting equipment, electrical systems, etc.). ? Champion a strong engineering safety culture and safe systems of work (LOTO, permits, risk
Continuous Improvement
? Implement lean manufacturing and TPM principles within engineering. ? Reduce waste, energy consumption, and cost per unit through technical optimisation. ? Utilise data and KPIs to drive measurable performance improvements.
Budget & Cost Management
? Own the engineering budget including maintenance spend, spares inventory, and capital investment.

? Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) ? Planned vs Reactive Maintenance Ratio ? Engineering Budget Adherence ? Downtime Reduction ? Health & Safety Metrics (Schedule of Events adherence, audit compliance) ? Successful Delivery of CapEx Projects.
